The crowds at The Eventing Spring Carnival at Thoresby Park International on Sunday (2 April) enjoyed a thrilling finish to The Lycetts Grantham Cup. Established in 2006, the role of the Grantham Cup was to create a Spring Class which would be the perfect pre-run for riders. The roll of honour of former winners includes Badminton Winners and Olympic Medallists.
The 2023 title went to Emily King and Valmy Biats, flanked by a pair of World Champions with Ros Canter and Pencos Crown Jewel taking second and Yasmin Ingham and Banzai Du Loir in third.

Less than four penalties split the top five combinations in the end, with a good dressage score, clear show jumping round and one of the day’s quicker cross country rounds giving the win to Emily and the gelding owned by herself, Philippe Brivois, Mrs Jacquie Shere and Mr Jeremy Shere and the event horse owners syndicate.
In the other CCI4*-S section (Section P), Piggy March made it back-to-back Thoresby wins in CCI4*S classes, this time with Brookfield Cavalier Cruise. The 10-year-old gelding owned by Alison Swinburn and John and Chloe Perry finished on a score of 36.6.
