Welcome to the Uvex Frickley Cup – a 90cm & 100cm long format event!

It is with great enthusiasm that British Eventing announce the trial of a new long format competition for riders competing at BE90 and BE100.

The Uvex Frickley Cup is a brand new competition giving members competing at BE90 and BE100 the opportunity to experience long format competition. Taking place across three days between the 16 – 19 August at Frickley Park International Horse Trials, members will be able to enjoy a stayaway experience with not only their horses but friends and family also!

The Uvex Frickley Cup will see riders contest a long format dressage test on the Friday in front of two judges before riding across an extended championship cross country course on the Saturday. Sunday will see all horses coming forward for a Trot Up in the morning prior to it culminating with reverse-order showjumping on the final day, followed by a mounted presentation prize-giving.

Alongside this, members will be further supported as part of British Eventing’s ‘Here to Help’ campaign with experts on hand to assist support and guide them throughout the long format experience.

The Uvex Frickley Cup has already attracted great interest from those whose concept it has been run past with Uvex immediately offering to be the title sponsor of the event. Uvex, which is distributed via Zebra Products, will be title sponsors and generously supporting the prize givings with prizes from £1,000 vouchers to the winners, £300 vouchers for second place, and  products down to 10th place.

Competitors, who will need to take advantage of the onsite stabling, will be able to use the event’s pop-up evening restaurant and bar, hacking around the estate and attend a complementary Drinks Party on the lawns of Frickley Hall. Friends and family of competitors will be invited to camp on site, to share in the occasion, free of charge.

Event Director William Buck said of the planned event: “I couldn’t have been more delighted when I put the idea forward to British Eventing and it was embraced in the way that it was. I very much want the Uvex Frickley Cup competition to become not only a great experience for competitors but also a social one where they can enjoy the evenings socialising with each other, as well as bringing their friends and family with them if they wish to.

“We are all extremely excited about it and we hope that it will be embraced by members in the same way.”

Simon Middleton, director of Zebra Products said: “I am a keen eventer myself, and when I heard of the new long format competition for riders competing at this level, I very much wanted to support it. It is a great initiative, and it will see not only great competition but also bring together the eventing community in a unique and fun way. I am looking forward to seeing it first-hand and presenting to the winners after three great days of competition.”

Rosie Williams OBE, Chief Executive for British Eventing said: “This is such a great opportunity for our grassroots riders, and I would like to acknowledge thanks to the team at Frickley for putting the idea forward as one they would like to incorporate into their international fixture.  We are going to support the initiative by having help on the ground that members can ask advice from, whether it be a question on tack or an accompanied course walk. The entire three days will be about creating an environment that not only gives them three days of competition but also three days of fun!”

The only requirement for entering these special classes is the ability to compete at either BE90 or BE100 level, albeit competitors are welcome to enter HC. The cross-country will be single phase, with no tracks, roads or steeplechase.
