Volunteer of the Month: Celebrating the Heart of British Eventing

Volunteers are the unsung heroes of British Eventing. They bring passion, dedication, and tireless commitment to every event, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. At British Eventing, we recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of our volunteers, which is our motivation behind the Volunteer of the Month Award. This award aims to highlight the hard work and dedication of the volunteers who make British Eventing so special.

This month’s Volunteer of the Month was nominated by Rebecca Harvie of Munstead Horse Trials.

Rebecca said: “At Munstead Horse Trials, our success hinges on the dedication of volunteers who give their time and expertise without hesitation. It was for this reason that we nominated Annette Hammond as our Volunteer of the Month.”

Annette has been a fixture at Munstead since September 2001 – over two decades of unwavering commitment. As Chief Dressage Steward, she oversees every aspect of the dressage arena to ensure smooth, efficient competition days.

“Annette arrives a full week before the event to prepare all of the dressage boards,” explains Rebecca. “She knows exactly what is what, which makes the dressage phase run like clockwork.”

Her organisational prowess doesn’t stop there. Annette expertly marshals teams of stewards, scorers, and sheet collectors, always remaining calm under pressure and ready to tackle any challenge.

“Nothing is ever too much for her,” Rebecca continues. “This time, she even stepped in at the secretary’s desk so I could compete in the BE80 round – helping me pursue my goal of five rounds toward the BE Championships.”

We extend our thanks to Annette Hammond for more than twenty years of service. British Eventing and Munstead Horse Trials wouldn’t be what it is today without her passion, expertise, and generosity.

If you know a volunteer who goes above and beyond in their role, we want to hear about them! Please send in your nominations to marketing@britisheventing.com to give someone the recognition they deserve. Inspired to get involved?
