Tom Jackson takes early lead in the new Equilume PBA League

With the season managing to get somewhat underway, despite what the weather is trying to throw at us, the league tables are now seeing results from those who have managed to get enough runs and the Equilume PBA League is starting to take shape.

The exciting new league, powered by EquiRatings and supported by Equilume, takes a combination’s three best finishing scores from all British Eventing events in the 2023 season and creates a Power Based Average (PBA). With all BE members on a level playing field, this exciting new league can be headed by anyone – from someone new to British Eventing doing their first grassroots competitions, through to those at advanced level who have a member for years.

With better weather forecast, more and more riders will be clocking up their third run and hoping to take their place at the top end of the league. The leader of the league at the end of the season will receive an extremely generous prize – £1,000 in prize money, plus £500 worth of Equilume products!

A strong start to the season with a couple of his six-year-olds sees Tom Jackson holding the top two places at this early stage. The gelding, Leamore After Hours owned by Anne and Iain Slater is the league’s current leader – recording a power average of 32.6 after successful runs in BE100 classes at Poplar Park andMoreton (1) and a Novice class at Cirencester Park (1).

Leamore After Hours is closely followed by his stablemate, Sage Soldier, owned by Alice Midmer and Richard and Diana Midmer. Strong performances in BE100 and Novice classes at the same fixtures leaves Tom and Sage Soldier lying in second place with a current power average of 33.

“They have both come out and started really well,” said Tom of Leamore After Hours and Sage Soldier. “Hopefully that will continue through their six-year-old year, where they will hopefully step up to bigger and better things. It’s a nice start to the season for these young horses and it’s a bonus to find they are well-placed in the new Equilume League.”

Holding third place at the moment is Rebecca Gibbs and her own 10-year-old gelding, Coirban Sarco Delux. Top ten finishes in ON and IN classes at Poplar Park, Moreton (1) and Cirencester Park (1) gives them a current power average of 35.

“He has done three double clears for me and been really good at every event. I’m very excited for the rest of the season,” said Rebecca, who is aiming to do the CCI3*-L at Bicton in May. “What a great prize the new Equilume League will be.”
