The Power of Light – A Key Ingredient for Training Success

The season is moving along at a rapid pace! The lengthening days of the season have long been associated with improved health, growth and performance. Equilume’s custom designed performance lighting systems are scientifically developed to mimic the benefits of the natural daylight cycles specifically for horses.  By harnessing the power of light provided by the sun on a spring or summer’s day, biologically effective light can be provided to your horse to stimulate maximum daytime performance and night time rest.

Lighting is particularly important for regulating the horse’s body clock, ensuring optimal health, condition and behaviour. Modern management of performance horses requires that they spend a large proportion of the 24-h day indoors, unexposed to optimum daylight for long periods and frequently disrupted by light at night. The Equilume Cashel Light Mask and Stable Lights were developed to counteract these problems, and are a key component for your training and performance success.

The Equilume Cashel Light Mask has been a gamechanger for performance horses by allowing them to receive optimum levels of stimulating blue light while turned out, travelling, or when stabled at a competition.  The duration as well of the quality of light also impacts a horse’s body clock. The Cashel Light Mask delivers 15 hours of biologically effective blue light each day to ensure your horse receives the benefits of a long summer’s day throughout the year. By supporting your horse’s internal rhythms, the mask helps to:

  • Maintain muscle tone
  • Strengthen immunity
  • Ensure a sleek and shiny coat and reduces the need for clipping
  • Encourages appetite
  • Positively influences mood and behaviour
  • Extended period of peak performance

When combined with the Equilume Stable Light, the Cashel Light Mask can provide your horse with all the benefits of natural light every day throughout the year, without disrupting the lighting regime due to competition schedules. The Stable Light mimics the gradual transitions of dawn and dusk, avoiding abrupt light transitions which can cause stress, and provides a dim red illumination at night for optimal rest and hormonal regulation.
