Sunday 23 April 2023 – UK Emergency Alert Test

British Eventing would like to remind members that a nationwide Emergency Alert test will take place at 3pm on Sunday 23rd April.  The Alert will be sent to all mobile phones on the 4G and 5G networks in the form of a sound and vibration for a duration of approximately 10 seconds,

British Eventing Officials will be working with the event organisers and teams to try and avoid any competitors being in the field of play at that time.  There will also be reminders through the day that the Phone Alert is happening.

The test is in respect of a UK-wide life-saving public Emergency Alerts system that can be utilised to send urgent messages to defined areas where there is an imminent risk to life, such as wildfires or severe flooding.

For the test, the public does not need to take any action; the sound and vibration will stop automatically.  Emergency Alerts have already been used successfully in a number of other countries where it has been widely credited with saving lives, for example, during severe weather events.
