Saffron Cresswell takes Frickley CCI3*-S Top Spot

Frickley Park were delighted to have the International classes return to the event, and the team of course designers and builders, lead by Adrian Ditcham and David Carpenter, provided an array of top tracks at all levels and it was exciting to see so many riders supporting the event.

Despite the extremely dry weather experienced over the last few months the Frickley Estate worked tirelessly to prepare all of the tracks and arenas to provide wonderful ground conditions utilising the estates own water supply and aerating before and during the event, which has since received many fantastic comments.

The estate owners, Charlie and Jayne Warde- Aldam also deserve a mention for all their hard work and commitment to the sport, enabling such a high class event to take place and provide eventing classes to all levels.

It was well worth the four hour drive to Frickley Park International Horse Trials for Malvern based Saffron Cresswell, who took the win in the Ideal Financial Management CCI3*-S on her own Fairlight Catwalk, finishing 2.3 penalties ahead of second place Charlotte Donald with Just the Biscuit.

Saffron also had another two horses finish in the top seven in the same class, claiming fourth with Vivendi Hero, owned by Barratt Eventing and seventh aboard Funny Guy owned by Saffron and Mrs Janet Warner.

The win was particularly poignant for Saffron as she has produced two of them from four year olds and are already showing their talent at 7 and 8 year olds.

Lizzie Baugh was on a roll in the Heck Foods CCI2*-S claiming the win on Shannondale Cedric owned by Mrs Toni Dalby-rose, followed by her own West Coast Jule to finish second.

Philippa Hendry and Flyer Des Coupeaux claimed the win of the Openfield BE90 National Qualifier Section U. Philippa has spent time taking Flyer Des Coupeaux water schooling to eight different venues over the last couple of months, even stopping off on route for a last minute dip, which helped his confidence to secure their spot at Badminton next year.

The NAF NQ80 title was taken by Deborah Burrell and her own 14 year old mare, Imperial Tangle securing their spot in the NAF Five Star BE80 Championship at Bramham International Horse Trials next year.

Frickley also hosted the Area Festival Championships, providing riders of the AFC90 and AFC100 long arena dressage, followed by a championship cross country over the stunning parkland, finishing with reverse order showjumping, which kept the spectators on the edge of their seats to find who would take the titles.

The Animalintex AFC100 win was secured by Daniella Johnston and Mrs Caroline Rowles Nicholson’s eight year old mare Penny Black X just picking up 0.4 time cross country finishing on 30.

Beccie Atkinson with Mrs Lorna Atkinson’s Moonlight Vision took the top spot of the Bloomfields AFC90 where only five competitors finished on a double clear, inside the time cross country.

The Savills AFC80 win was taken by Rachael Jefferson aboard her own Bloxham Splash in a tightly contested section where they picked up 2.8 time cross country, which still saw them take the lead by just 0.5.

Frickley Park estate owner, Charlie Warde- Aldam commented, “The team at Frickley would like to say a special thank you to all of the riders, sponsors, volunteers, officials and spectators who all ensured the three days were a huge success, and the team are already looking to build upon this, to bring a bigger event in 2023”.
