Royally-bred embryo sells at Sovereign’s Spring Supreme sale

The Sovereign Auction Spring Supreme Sale of Foals and Embryos (28 May) was a great success, with the online auction company recording its largest number of viewers and bidders subscribing to the sale.

There was also a Sovereign Auction “first” in that one of its prestigious showjumping lots, an embryo out of the CSI5* mare Tinkabell 12 by Kannan, sold to Ireland’s Kilcannon Stud.

Tinkabell 12, by Casco, jumped on Nations Cups teams and in 1.60m grand prix with legendary Brazilian showjumper Rodrigo Pessoa and also with Sweden’s Angelie von Essen. Kannan – sire of Steve Guerdat’s Nino Des Buissonnets, on whom the Swiss rider won individual Olympic gold at London 2012 – has an astonishing 409 progeny competing above 1.50m level.

Steve Revell of The Sovereign Auction said: “We were delighted last year to sell the first international eventing embryo to the USA, and are thrilled this year to have sold to such high-profile Irish buyers from our base here in the UK in Leicestershire, just 15 minutes from Burghley Horse Trials.

“We are very pleased that we can provide a service to our breeders, who are also our vendors, that allows them to engage with a global audience of buyers.”

The Sovereign Auction holds exclusive sales of both international showjumping and international eventing foals and, with the increasing cross-over in use of 1.60m jumping sires in both disciplines, meets the needs of these two Olympic sports. That being the case, it is no surprise that Kannan is also the sire of Laura Collett’s up-and-coming CCI4* international eventer Bling.
