Competitors and spectators alike were finally treated to a long-awaited full weekend of competition at the Sytner Land Rover Knutsford Kelsall Hill International Horse Trials.
Britain’s Andrew Downes was the first on course on Saturday in the Sytner Land Rover Knutsford CSI3*, and the first competitor to tackle the brand-new track by Adrian Ditchan. But it was best friends and emerging talents Tom Woodward and Finn Healy who took the winner and runner up spots respectively.
Riding Team Joey’s nine-year-old gelding Jaegar Master, Tom pulled off a double clear to finish on his dressage score of 27.6, as did Finn with Amy Hawley’s 10-year-old Grafenstolz mare Treamble, who were just 0.7 points behind with 28.3.
“It’s a brilliant course with lovely facilities and I’m delighted with the result,” said Tom of his victory.
Of his second place, Finn added: “Kelsall Hill is one of my local events and we love coming here. It was a great result.”
Third-placed Andrew Hoy also finished on his dressage score of 29.3 riding Bloom Des Hauts Crets.
The Equilatte Advanced Intermediate was won by CMS Google and Kristina Hall-Jackson, who also cinched second place with Hawk Eye.
Commenting on social media, Kristina said: “It’s not very often you have such a good day in the office! Absolutely over the moon with both horses today producing PB’s in their dressage tests followed by double clears. Couldn’t be happier for all the owners involved.”
Pippa Funnel took both third and fourth in the same class riding Grafton Street and Billy Wonder respectively.
Smilla IV was crowned the winner in Sunday’s Sytner Land Rover Knutsford CSI2*, ridden by Ruby Thompson. The pair finished on their dressage score of 29.9. Runner up went to Keyland William and Lucy Ormrod (30.6), while Ben Way took third with Ditchford Explorer (32.1).
