A busy weekend was had at Hopetoun which played host to qualifying tickets for Badminton and Bramham.
In the Regional Championships National Qualifiers (RCNQ), the BE80 qualifier saw riders aiming for the Bramham grassroots championship, while the BE90 and 100 riders had Badminton grassroot championships firmly in their sights.
The BE80 RCNQ was awarded to Niamh Cameron and Tullyoran Full Irish for their score of 29.1.
The popular BE90 RCNQ was split into three sections with Catherine Gaynor and G winning section M with 29.4, Amy Dixon and Goodluck II, who won last year’s BE90 at Badminton Grassroots championships, claiming section N with 29.1, and Clare Pearson and Incontention taking section O with 30.
Catherine Gaynor said of her win: “My little horse was never intended to be mine (he was bought as a working hunter pony for my daughter) – let alone have me eventing again after 25 years! He got me through a very, very dark time over the last couple of years and he is just a little horse with a great big heart that just keeps on giving.”
Amy Dixon commented: “I’m super pleased with how today went. Ronnie was very relaxed and on his A game. I started training the TRT method last year as Ronnie is naturally very inwardly anxious. It’s helping him an awful lot. I did 20minutes ground work with him before getting on for the dressage. Today, it really felt like it helped him. The test was very relaxed and easy. I thought the show jumping was a decent track and fence 9 seemed to come down a lot, but he jumped a fab round which is great as it can be our weakest phase. Then the cross-country rode great, it was definitely a tougher 90 track and the time felt a little tighter. I love eventing in Scotland, it’s quite a journey for us from south Cumbria but feels even more special to win a regional at one of my favourite events.”
Clare Pearson said: “Oliver is a star. I bred him so I’m very proud of him! I can’t believe we won as we have never made it inside the time before as I’m pretty scared of the cross-country.”
Last year’s Badminton BE90 winner, Ben Fairbrother, was crowned BE100 RCNQ champion riding Upper Limit. He scored 30.1 for the win.
Ben said: “This season has gone amazingly well and I’m thrilled with today’s win as I have been doing a summer placement between university semesters 100 miles from home, and only get to ride at the weekends when I am back. Max has been so consistent this year and always gives a great feeling in all three phases! Winning the Badminton BE90 Championship in May was magical and I can’t wait to go back again for the 100 Championship next year.”
Congratulations to our riders.
