Three super days of competition was had at Oasby (1) last weekend, marking the start of BEDE Events’ British Eventing season.
Following a difficult run up to the event, that was beset with wet weather, an outpouring of support has been seen across social media praising the level of hard work that went into producing the ground conditions to such a high standard.
Daisy Bathe, winner of the OIu21 with Morelands Casanova, commented:
“A great run at Oasby in the OIu21 with Gin (Morelands Casanova) taking the win and Dotty (Moonlit Swayze) 7th. Very grateful to the team at BEDE Events for their hard work ensuring we were able to run on the best possible ground.”
Louise Harwood also lavished praised on the grounds team with a “Hooray, back out eventing” on Facebook. The post went on to add “amazing that the great team at BEDE Event managed to run Oasby. Thank you! The ground was actually really good (nearly needed hoof oil and you could wear trainers all day).”
With a roll call of 5* combinations filling the Intermediate classes it was young rider Millie Juleff and the talented Viktor Krum who rode away with the win in Friday’s OI section I.
“We had a great day at Oasby with Viktor winning the OI. Viktor is very consistent on the flat and judges love him so he had a great dressage score of 25.5. On cross-country he really was mega, the course was great for the first run back with a few decent questions and he really took them on like it was nothing. I really didn’t expect the ground to be how it was after having so much rain this winter so a very big thank you to the team at Oasby for making it possible to have these first few runs!”
Fellow young rider Danielle Mccormack seemed to dominate Thursday’s leader board with all three horses finishing inside the top four.
“It was great to get some more of the horses out to their first event at Oasby. The team had done a great job on the ground and the courses were great. All horses were on great form and jumped double clear and finished on their dressage score!”
Sadly, further rain overnight on Saturday resulted in the abandonment of Sunday’s competition due to waterlogged ground conditions.
Event Director, Stuart Buntine commented:
“After three really good days of competition, further overnight rain made the whole site really un-goable, it was too wet and too dangerous to run. We’re really sorry to have had to have made the call. Refunds will be processed as soon as we can, and our office team will keep everyone updated.”
Some classes at The Eventing Spring Carnival, Thoresby Park, still have capacity for further entries, with BEDE’s Solihull (1) fixture opening for entries on the 15th March.
