Osberton International welcomes long-format amateur classes

Osberton International (27th September – 1st October) is excited to welcome amateur event riders to the inaugural long-format National Three-Day at Novice and Intermediate.

Running alongside the existing CCI2*L and CCI3*L will be two new National Novice and Intermediate ‘trophy classes’ that are restricted to those riders who have not started an FEI class in the past two seasons.

For the first time, Osberton will feature a CCI1* giving grassroots riders a taste of FEI competition as well. The new CCI1* will also act as the culmination of the new Agria Lifetime Equine BE100 League, which is being hosted across all BEDE Events with BE100 classes. The league aims to give grassroots riders an additional focus for the 2023 season and create increased brand loyalty to British Eventing and BEDE Events. The CCI1* is the entry-level FEI eventing class and for Osberton will run in a dressage – cross-country – showjumping format.

“We wanted to give an increased number of riders access to the end of season party that is Osberton. Many riders dream of riding at an international three-day event but are unable to do so due to the additional cost of an FEI event or the complexity of MERs or entries. By keeping MERs simple we can create an end of season trophy that many Novice and Intermediate riders can aim for. Similarly, with the addition of the CCI1*, we hope that BE100 riders will have a new aim and can gain a taste of FEI competition,” says BEDE Events Director, Stuart Buntine.

The National Three-Day classes will require two Novice or Intermediate MERs to qualify and are open to all riders who have not started an FEI class in 2022 and 2023. Those horses with FEI registrations will still be eligible. Classes will run in a three-day format with a trot up on the final day, prior to the showjumping. Onsite stabling will not be compulsory for these classes however competitors are encouraged to stable onsite to get the full international event experience, with a range of evening activities each day for those staying onsite.

The Osberton CCI2*L and CCI3*L will both act as finales for BEDE Events Arena Saddles Novice League and the Investec Intermediate League, both of which have enhanced prize funds and run across all BEDE Events.
