Osberton International – Preview

The country’s leading riders are set to converge on Nottinghamshire’s Osberton International Horse Trials later this month on 28th September – 1st October.

All set against the scenic backdrop of the Osberton Estate, the world’s best eventing riders and the UK’s leading carriage drivers are set to compete in their respective disciplines, creating an unmissable weekend of equestrian sport.

Oliver Townend returns to Osberton hot off his third Defender Burghley CCI5* victory.  Most notably the world ranked number 3 brings forward last year’s CCI2*L winner, Finley Du Loir, to contest the CCI3*L.

Recent European Championship team gold medallist, Kitty King sets her sight on the Investec CCI3*L title with a pair of horses with previous Osberton form.  Ogue Verdi and Cristal Fontaine both achieved a top ten finish on their last Osberton showing, both in the 7-year-old championship.

Crowd favourite, Piggy March will be one to watch in the CCI2*L with Brookfield William and Brookfield Kept In The Darco.  An impressive pair of young horses who’ve both seen winning form this season.

Piggy March also takes on a new role at Osberton International as one of BEDE Events new mentor riders.  The new initiative for 2023 sees March, Matthew Heath and Simon Grieve take on the role as rider representative but also as mentors for younger riders and those new to the three-day format.  The senior riders have offered their support in terms of pre-event education and advice session, plus on-site course walks.

The former host of the Young Horse Championships, Osberton has become synonymous with supporting the careers of some of the most iconic eventing horses in the country.  Last year saw 68% of the Defender Burghley Horse Trials field made up of Osberton Graduates.

Event Director Stuart Buntine said:

We have been proud to host so many exceptional horse and rider combinations over the years, many of whom have gone on to 5* and championship glory.  As we enter a new era of the event we’re delighted with this year’s entry that not only features some of the very best riders in the world but also welcomes those looking to experience their first destination event or take part in their first international.”

In addition to world class eventing, Osberton will once host the Bennington Carriages National Carriage Driving event. Leading drivers from across the country will pit their prowess as they drive at speed through winding obstacles and take on the Estate’s new Marathon course.  To experience the thrill of Marathon Driving ensure to book your Car Pass for Sunday 1st October.

There is all the fun of the fair with bouncy castle and slide, fairground attractions galore and even an undercover Kids Zone, that supports the Bluebell Woods Children’s Hospice, with plenty of activities to keep the little ones occupied.

Osberton International – 28th September – 1st October, offers a great day out for all the family, with lots to see and do, alongside world class equestrian action.

To attend the event simply book Car Parking which includes entry to all occupants.  Tickets are available from £15 per car via www.bede-events.co.uk/tickets
