It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jamie Innes, a cherished member of the British Eventing community. Jamie, who dedicated much of his life to the sport, was a skilled organiser, BE Steward, BE Technical Advisor, Cross-country Course Designer, and Course Builder. His passion for eventing and his unparalleled commitment to the sport left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Jamie’s journey in eventing began many years ago, when his love for the sport inspired him to immerse himself in every facet of the eventing world. He was also heavily involved in point-to-pointing. As an organiser, his attention to detail and tireless work ethic ensured that each event he was involved in ran smoothly and successfully. His keen understanding of the sport also made him an exceptional BE Steward and BE Technical Advisor, roles in which he gave invaluable guidance and support to riders and event organisers alike.
Perhaps Jamie’s most profound legacy will be in his work as a cross-country course designer and builder, designing courses at Richmond, Belsay, Burgham, Floors Castle and Frenchfield, to name a few. His passion for creating courses that tested both horse and rider, while ensuring safety and enjoyment, earned him the respect and admiration of the entire eventing community.
Jamie’s colleagues often spoke of his kindness, generosity, and sense of humour – he was well known for his entertaining commentary. His dedication to the sport was matched only by his dedication to the people in it. Whether mentoring newcomers or offering a helping hand to seasoned professionals, Jamie’s influence was far-reaching, and his absence will be felt profoundly by all who knew him.
Rosie Williams, CEO of British Eventing commented: “Jamie Innes was a cornerstone of British Eventing, a man whose contributions shaped the very fabric of our sport. His humour, the way he went about his work, his integrity, and unwavering support for the sport were second to none. On behalf of all of us at British Eventing, we extend our deepest condolences to Jamie’s family, friends, and colleagues. He will be sorely missed.”
Jamie leaves behind a legacy of excellence in the eventing world, and his passing represents a great loss to the sport. He will be remembered not only for his exceptional skills and achievements but also for his kindness, humility, and the passion he brought to British Eventing.
Our thoughts are with Jamie’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with him.
