New Penrith Horse Trials to replace Frenchfield

British Eventing (BE) is pleased to announce that the former Frenchfield site will now hold an event under a new name and management team.

Former Junior European gold-medallist Kath Martin and BE Course Builder Rob McSkimming have taken on the site and rebranded the event as Penrith which will run on 14th-15th September 2024, with classes from BE80-100 and open classes, including GO BE classes. Entries are open now.

BE CEO Rosie Williams, commented: “This is great news for our members in the north, and we are really pleased that this turn around has been able to be done so quickly. Kath and Rob are a great team and working closely with the landowner. I am really confident that this will be a great event for a long time in the BE Calendar.”

Kath Martin said: “Rob and I have had a long involvement with eventing, and when the opportunity arose to take on Penrith, we didn’t hesitate. We’re keen for BE to continue in Cumbria and are very excited to crack on. We’re looking forward to seeing some familiar faces returning to the event, and offer a very warm welcome to new riders, too.”

Rob McSkimming said: “We were keen to keep the event running, and hope that it will be well-supported so that we can continue to build on it for the future. It’s a true grassroots event run on permanent, sandy pasture. We’re carrying out a lot of improvement to the ground with aggravators and we are looking at making some changes to the course. It’s a fun course with nice undulations and amazing views of the Lake District. We’re looking forward to welcoming everybody.”
