Jayne, who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with her, will adjudicate upon disciplinary matters within the organisation. A highly experienced Solicitor Advocate, Jayne runs her own practice specialising in advice and representation on professional regulation and discipline, primarily within the legal profession. She is also listed in Band 1 of the Chambers & Partners Directory for professional discipline nationwide.
Jayne’s extensive experience in governance and disciplinary proceedings marks her appointment as a significant step forward in British Eventing’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of governance, fairness and accountability within the sport. Prior to setting up her own practice in 2010, Jayne was a Partner in an international law firm and served as the first female President of Birmingham Law Society. Jayne’s other roles have included Independent Member West Midlands Police Misconduct Panel and Chair Coventry City Council Standards Committee.
On acceptance of position as Disciplinary Chairman Jayne said: “Having ridden and competed since I was a child, I now have the opportunity to put my professional expertise and experience to good use in a voluntary role within the equestrian sector and to put something back into the sport. I am looking forward to supporting BE in its quest for greater fairness and accountability.”
British Eventing’s CEO, Rosie Williams, said of Jayne’s appointment: “We are delighted to have someone of Jayne’s experience fulfilling the role as Disciplinary Chairman. In the past, much of the disciplinary work fell to the CEO, but we’ve improved our governance structures by separating this responsibility while keeping it fundamentally connected. This will allow us to ensure that matters are handled fairly and promptly for everyone involved, and this change will allow that to happen.”
The appointment of a new independent Disciplinary Chairman underscores British Eventing’s dedication to transparency and integrity. This new structure will ensure that all disciplinary issues are addressed impartially and efficiently, fostering a fair and respectful environment for all members and participants.
Joining and further supporting Jayne as Disciplinary Panel members are Suzannah Cotterill and Victoria Lewis, both of whom bring considerable depth of experience within their sectors to the position. Suzannah is an experienced barrister with a niche practice in equine law and mediation. Victoria is a seasoned researcher and senior lecturer at Hartpury University and has a proven track record in her role as educator, official and judge.
