Osberton International (27th September – 1st October) is set to welcome a range of new classes to the feature Autumn fixture, that will offer grassroots riders and non-FEI registered riders a new end-of-season aim.
For the first time Osberton will feature a CCI1* offering grassroots riders a taste of FEI competition at a destination event. The new CCI1* will also act as the culmination of the new Agria Lifetime Equine BE100 League, which is being hosted across all BEDE Events with BE100 classes. The league aims to give grassroots riders an additional aim for the 2023 season and create increased brand loyalty to British Eventing and BEDE Events. The CCI1* is the entry-level FEI eventing class and for Osberton will run in a dressage – cross-country – Showjumping format.
Running alongside the existing CCI2*L and CCI3*L will be two new National Novice and Intermediate ‘trophy classes’ that are restricted to non-FEI registered riders.
“The aim is to provide an end of season destination event for non-FEI registered riders, that runs in a 3-day format. We appreciate that there are many riders who choose to follow the National class route and not target FEI events, and we wanted to create something special for this classification of horse and rider. By keeping MERs simple we can create an end of season trophy that many Novice and Intermediate riders can aim for. Similarly with the addition of the CCI1* we hope that BE100 riders will have a new aim and can gain a taste of FEI competition” says BEDE Events Director, Stuart Buntine.
The classes will require two Novice or Intermediate MERs to qualify and are open to all Riders who have not registered with the FEI in 2022 and 2023. Those horses with FEI registrations will still be eligible. Classes will run in a three-day format with a vet’s inspection on arrival and, on the final day, prior to the Showjumping. Due to these classes not running under FEI rules, onsite stabling will not be compulsory, assisting in keeping the costs at a lower level for those riders keen to compete at a three-day event.
The Osberton CCI2*L and CCI3*L will both act as finales for BEDE Events Arena Saddles Novice League and the Investec Intermediate League, both of which have enhanced prize funds and run across all BEDE Events.
