There are less than two weeks to go until Aston-le-Walls International, 5th – 9th July, and the organisers are looking forward to welcoming riders from across the globe. A staggering 22 Olympians from 10 different nations are among the entries.
In total 13 nations will be represented, from Belgium and Brazil, to Hong Kong, New Zealand, Sweden and South Africa. Just shy of 450 combinations will contest the three international classes, one-, three- and four-star short format. A further 250 are set to run at novice level.
World number one Tim Price (NZL) heads the four-star line-up with Viscount Viktor, while Badminton 2023 winner Ros Canter (GBR), who has just moved up to second in the world rankings, brings Rehy Royal Diamond and MHS Seventeen.
Others to watch include multipe five-star winner Oliver Townend (GBR) with Crazy du Loir and Caunton First Class, recent Luhmuhlen winner Laura Collett (GBR) on Outback II and Bling, the ever-competitive Jonelle Price (NZL) who brings Hiarado, and Kitty King (GBR) with the on-form Ceylor LAN; this pair has won both of its advanced outings this season.
The three-star class looks set to be equally competitive. Piggy March (GBR) will be giving Tim Price a run for his money – she brings Cooley Kan Do and Brookfield Inocent, while Tim has three entries at this level, Volani, Dromgurrihy Gold and Chio 20. William Fox-Pitt (GBR) needs no introduction – he has entered Duke Legacy, while another legend of the sport, Andrew Nicholson (NZL) may have stepped down from the very top level of eventing but he has three runners, Erin, Filipo and Fenizio. Busiest rider of the class looks set to be Alex Bragg (GBR) who has gamely entered five for the three-star.
In addition to the national and international eventing, Aston-le-Walls has been awarded Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse classes for four- and five-year-olds. These will run on Wednesday 5th July, showcasing the up-and-coming stars of the future.
