A double clear with a dressage score of 29.5 saw Lucy Goodey and 10-year-old Irish gelding Barrettstown Wow finish at the top of the leader board and be named HorseQuest Novice Master at Farley Hall.
“I’ve owned Bailey since he was five, and this is our sixth season eventing together,” said Lucy. Bailey was absolutely great at Farley Hall – he didn’t put a foot wrong and I enjoyed every second.
“We are hoping to make the trip up to Blair this year for their last event and do the 2*-L and then hopefully step back up to intermediate. The Novice Masters series is great, it’s so lovely to have a class to aim for with the novice horses, and it’s a really good prep run for 2* or for those stepping up to intermediate.
“The Novice Masters class definitely has a special feel as you get to ride a slightly trickier dressage test in your tail coat and the show jumping is bigger and more technical than the novice. I would encourage anyone who is enjoying competing their horses at novice to have a go at the class.”
Also finishing on a double clear were runners up Saskia Davies and Singing Usk (30.5), while third went to Megan Brown and Don Stefano who added just four faults show jumping to their 29.9 dressage for a total score of 33.9.
In addition to becoming the Farley Hall Novice Master, Lucy also received a HorseQuest rug, numnah, HorseQuest riding socks and a £50 HorseQuest voucher. Saskia’s prizes included a HorseQuest numnah, riding socks and a £30 HorseQuest voucher, and Megan received HorseQuest fleece gilet, riding socks and a £20 HorseQuest voucher.
The next Novice Masters competition in the calendar will be at Little Downham (2) on 3 August.
