Lucy Goodey is HorseQuest Novice Master at Aston-le-Walls

Lucy Goodey and her nine-year-old gelding Barrettstown Wow, pulled off a stunning double clear to finish on their dressage score of 29.2 and be crowned HorseQuest Aston-le-Walls Novice Master for 2023.

“He normally does jump pretty well, and I was hopeful that he’d jump a double clear, but he can either be really good or really bad because he’s quite sharp, so as long as the dressage arenas aren’t too close, we get a good score normally,” said Lucy who has owned the gelding four years since a five-year-old. “He jumped really well cross country and was inside the time, which was good – we sometimes get time faults because he’s not the most thoroughbred, but he galloped well.

“We did the Novice Masters at Catton Park too; it’s a really good series.”

Lucy, who runs a livery yard at home, plans to move up to intermediate next, and then have a go at 3* this year.

Also finishing on a double clear were runners up Charlotte Clewlow and Annagh Little Rosey (29.6), while Trudy Johnson and Kohinoor took third with a score of 30.

In addition to becoming the Aston-le-Walls Novice Master, Lucy also received a HorseQuest padded jacket, Nuumed numnah, HorseQuest riding socks and a £50 HorseQuest voucher. Charlotte’s prizes included a HorseQuest fleece gilet, riding socks and a £30 HorseQuest voucher, and Trudy received HorseQuest riding socks and a £20 HorseQuest voucher.

The next Novice Masters competition in the calendar will be at Little Downham (2), Cambridgeshire on Sunday 23 July.
