Lizzie Baugh and her own and Mrs Janet Rycroft’s eight-year-old gelding Piltown Concorde were victorious in the Ideal Financial Management CCI-S 3* on a score of 27.4. The pair added just 2.4 time penalties cross-country to their 27.4 dressage and clear show jumping round.
Second place went to Tom McEwen riding James Lambert’s Shannondale Arnold on a score of 37.6, while third went to Imogen Murray riding Sue Colley’s Hendrik 24 with 37.7.
Lizzie said of her winning performance: “It was a good track and he gave me a great round. He’s naturally a really quick horse so I knew it would suit him. He’s was absolutely brilliant all the way round – he jumped the coffin absolutely perfect, and was super straight to the corner out of the last water as well h- e picked up the line there really well.”
Heck CCI-S2*
Piggy March and Brookfield Danny De Muze finished on their dressage score of 26.1 to earn the Heck CCI-S 2* title. The gelding is owned by Alison Swinburn and Mr and Mrs John Perry.
Second place went to Kevin Ncnab riding Dom Worcester, Stephanie Staaf and Poppy Worcester’s Newmarket Amy who finished on a score of 32.6, while third was awarded to Max Warburton riding Fenizio owned by Dr Maggie Demuth (34.5).
The owners of Piggy’s Brookfield Danny De Muze said: “He looked really super. Piggy is amazing and she does such a good job. This horse hasn’t done very much this year, but he’s hopefully off to Blair next. We haven’t been here before, and the course and atmosphere is really fantastic.”
Uvex Frickley Cup
Frickley also played host to the inaugural Uvex Frickley Cup, a brand new competition giving members competing at BE90 and BE100 the opportunity to experience long format competition.
The Uvex Frickley Cup saw riders contest a long format dressage test on the Friday in front of two judges before riding across an extended championship cross country course on the Saturday. Sunday saw all horses coming forward for a Trot Up in the morning prior to it culminating with reverse-order showjumping on the final day, followed by a mounted presentation prize-giving. Title sponsors Uvex, which is distributed via Zebra Products, generously supported the prize givings with prizes from £1,000 vouchers to the winners, £300 vouchers for second place, and products down to 10th place.
The winner of the 90 section Amy Dixon on her own Goodluck II held the lead from start to finish and finished on her dressage score of 28.8. Suzanne Ross and Findatie Bracken were runners-up on 31, while third place went to Maddy Greenaway and Special Van De Smedenport on31.8.
Amy said of her win: “It hasn’t really sunk in yet. What a weekend! We have had an amazing time. It was such a fabulous venue, and they made a real effort with a drinks reception Friday night on the lawn outside the house with a band and fire eater and an onsite restaurant; it felt like a really grand event.
“I was super pleased with Ronnie’s test on Friday, he was really with me. The cross-country had plenty of questions and I felt like I really had to get ‘stuck in’. It was a great experience to do the trot up, as it was something I’ve never done before. The nerves on the final day were high, with reverse order show jumping. I really thought I was going to mess it up, but Ronnie was really up for it and jumped a class round. I’m still in total shock to have won.
“Thank you to Frickley Park and British Eventing for trialling the Uvex Cup Three-Day event. It was brilliant and I would highly recommend. I made some lovely new friends and everyone was so supportive.”
The winner of the 100 section, Tim Slinger, on his own Demetrius, also led from start to finish, finishing on his dressage score of 30.1. Second place went to Eva Carrier and Merckx NL on 31.3, and third place went to Stephanie Batty and Attyrory Mate on 34.3.
Tim said: “Demetrius, or Dim as we all know him at home, is my only horse that I event. He is 8 years old and I have produced him myself from a 5 year old. I am an amateur rider alongside my wife Rachael Slinger who is a professional rider. I work full time for Lycetts as an insurance broker. I have competed Dim up to 2* – having actually ran my first 2* at Frickley in 2023. I decided to enter the 100 3DE this year as we love the event and we thought Dim would have a good shot at winning it.
“The pressure was on right from the start with high expectations from the team at home. Dim loves the atmosphere and he rose to the occasion being last to go in all stages, and leading all the way adding nothing to his dressage score. He was foot perfect and helped me out right at the very last fence in the show jumping finding a fifth leg as I hit a complete misser to the last.
“We always support Frickley Horse Trials – huge credit to Charlie and his team for super ground conditions across all phases. Also huge thanks to all sponsors, volunteers and organisers who put on a fantastic show across the 3 days. We were over the moon to take home the win, and very proud of Dim. I’m hoping for more laps of honour in the future!”
Both riders received £1,000 UVEX vouchers presented to them by Simon Middleton, director of Zebra Products, and enjoyed a lap of honour in the International Arena to celebrate their achievements!
Riders can purchase their rounds from Equireel.
