Lauren West and Katherine Mary Barker’s eight-year-old mare Quintessa’s Charlotte finished on their dressage score of 30.6 to claim the HorseQuest Novice Masters title at Allerton Park.
This is Lauren’s second Novice Masters win having landed the title at Little Downham in the inaugural year of the series 2021 on Valentino 46.
“I won the Novice Masters in 2021 on Katherine’s other horse Valentino, but sadly we lost him last year,” explained Lauren. “She bought Charlotte a few years ago and in the process of taking videos to sell her, I was asked to ride her and fell in love with her, so she was never sold.
“She has been very straightforward but is a very sassy mare but I believe that edge makes her a very good event horse. Conformationally, she’s not the best as she’s a bit croup high which makes the dressage challenging, but her heart and brain are unbelievable and she is very cool.
“At Allerton, she did a lovely dressage test. The show jumping was up to height and it proved quite influential, but she jumped round clear and then was amazing cross country. We’re going to have a go at intermediate next.”
Runners up were Brier Dunn and Caherconree Rocky who added four show jumping penalties to a 27.9 dressage and clear cross country for a total score of 31.9, while Sarah Fanning and Ard Naugat picked up 1.6 time penalties cross country which saw them finish on 34.7 in third.
In addition to becoming the Little Downham Novice Master, Lauren also received a HorseQuest padded jacket, Nuumed numnah, HorseQuest riding socks and a £50 HorseQuest voucher. Brier’s prizes included a HorseQuest fleece gilet, riding socks and a £30 HorseQuest voucher, and Sarah received HorseQuest riding socks and a £20 HorseQuest voucher.
