Howden joins forces with The Sovereign Auction

British-based insurer insurance broker, Howden, has joined forces with British Eventing Business Partner The Sovereign Auction to become a Platinum Partner of their four auctions in 2023.

Howden has come on board at the same time as Sovereign announced that they are working with the breeding team behind Ros Canter’s 2023 Badminton winner Lordships Graffalo and Ros’s other ride Pencos Crown Jewel, who was ninth at Badminton.

The Sovereign Auction’s first sale of this year features foals from the direct dam line of Lordships Graffalo and Pencos Crown Jewel along with a foal that shares the same breeding as Michael Jung’s record-breaking 2022 Kentucky CCI5* winner FischerChipmunk FRH who is by Contendro-1 out of a mare by Heralkdik xx.  Michael Jung and FischerChipmunk won Kentucky last year on a record-breaking CCI5* score of just 20.1.

Last year The Sovereign Auction sold an implanted embryo that was a full sibling to Lordships Graffalo, and have a similarly spectacular catalogue of entries in their first sale on 28 May – their Spring Supreme Sale of foals and implanted embryos.

Howden’s Equine division is able to provide prospective bidders with quotations for implanted embryo and foal insurance along with their other insurance products covering competition horses, bloodstock, and commercial equestrian insurance. A-Plan, part of the Howden Group, can also arrange horse and pony mortality and veterinary fees, horsebox, motor and home insurance.

Catherine Morgan, Divisional Director at Howden, when asked about the new partnerships with Sovereign, said: “We are pleased to be working with The Sovereign Auction as it gives us the opportunity to support the breeders and buyers of some of the world’s most exclusive competition horses here in the UK.”

Steve Revell, a Director of The Sovereign Auction, said: “Howden is one of the most respected insurance brokers in the sports horse and bloodstock sector and will be able to support both our breeders and buyers of the foals and implanted embryos that we will be selling across our four auctions in 2023.”
