First recruits announced to The Howden Way Young Horse Academy

 

 

 

British Eventing is delighted to announce the first recruits onto The Howden Way Young Horse Academy. The Academy will deliver a Young Horse Pathway programme giving valuable support to the development and recognition of young horses competing within British Eventing.

Recruits were selected via the two Young Horse Viewing and Development Days which took place in August and September. Combinations were identified based on some of the following factors: paces, balance, jumping ability and technique, trainability/rideability, suitability and perspective as a future quality event horse.

The following combinations have been successful in being invited onto The Howden Way Young Horse Academy:

  • Charlotte Rowe from Devon and the 6-year-old gelding, Harthill Samba* owned by Peter Appleford and John Bevan
  • Ella Woodhead from Staffordshire and the 7-year-old gelding, Quarza owned by the rider
  • Ellie Fredericks from Wiltshire and the 7-year-old mare, Pure Trendsetter owned by Lucinda Fredericks and Elizabeth Hills
  • Emma Carmichael from Northumberland and the 7-year-old gelding, Leo Santos owned by Elaine Carmichael
  • Harriet Wright from Derbyshire and the 6-year-old gelding, RNH Ultimate owned by the rider
  • Jack Pinkney from Hampshire and the 6-year-old gelding, Carpo Vivendi owned by Sara Brown
  • Lily Bradstock from Oxfordshire and the 7-year-old mare, Tout Chocolat* owned by Susan Solis
  • Louise Bradley from Buckinghamshire and the 7-year-old gelding, Ardeo Mandela owned by Alison Garlick
  • Lucy Sugden from North Yorkshire and the 6-year-old gelding, Zorro B* owned by the rider
  • Paolo Torlonia from Gloucestershire and the 6-year-old mare, Zulla del Terriccio owned by the rider

*British-bred horses

Recruits will have access to educational camps with leading expertise in addition to remote support. The first Young Horse Academy camp will take place on 28th and 29th January 2023 at Solihull Riding Club in the West Midlands.
