British Eventing and Chef de Mission David Sheerin of Wellington Riding are pleased to announce the final 21 riders selected for the European 3* Cup squad. Designed to bridge the gap to top international level, the CCI3* European Cup Championship is an international championship specifically aimed at CCI3*-S level riders. It has been a stepping stone for many 5* riders including European and World Champion Ros Canter.
Taking place every two years at rotating venues across Europe, the championship gives members the unique chance to be a part of a selected CCI3* European Cup squad. The squad will be offered bespoke training and guidance from BE certified coaches throughout this season and next in the hope of being one of the six combinations selected to represent Great Britain at the Championships on 9-13 July 2025 in Minderhout, Belgium.
David Sheerin commented: “I’m very pleased and excited to announce the horse and rider combinations selected for the European 3*Cup squad. I’d like to say a big thank you to those who gave their time to apply and attend selection days. We had an impressive calibre of riders apply, and it wasn’t easy selecting the final squad due to the sheer number of talented combinations. However, we have now chosen our squad and we look forward to training and developing the riders and horses over the coming months with our sights set on taking a team to Belgium in July 2025.”
British Eventing CEO Rosie Williams said: “It’s great to see such a strong cohort of talented horse and rider combinations looking to further their experience and take their eventing careers to the next level. We’re very grateful to David Sheerin at Wellington Riding and Kylie Roddy for the time and expertise they are giving to the European 3*Cup programme, and we look forward to following the squad’s journey and success in the coming months.”

The squad is headed up by David Sheerin in his role of Chef de Mission and Kylie Roddy in the position of Chef d’Equipe. Both David and Kylie have come through the CCI3* European Cup route themselves before going on to enjoy success as international riders and top-level coaches in their own right.
This is a self-funded programme for the athletes with Wellington Riding giving its facilities to support the programme. Funds raised some money through the training days will support the team and coaches traveling to the championships.
Squad riders will compete at three selection events in 2025; Cirencester (2), Tweseldown (2) and Aston Le Walls (1) where selectors will be present. A shortlist for 6 team riders and 2 individuals who will go to the championships, will be made by 1 June 2025. The team will compete in a 4 day competition for the team medal (Cup) and the individuals can either stand in for team members, or compete on days 2, 3, 4 for an individual medal. The squad (longlist) will remain open for additional riders to join up until the end of May 2025; there is a watch list of riders to keep an eye on for the start of next season.
