Ahead of the exciting Championships, we caught up with new BE member Amy Armstrong to find out what she is most looking forward to ahead of the event.
“Eventing is always something I wanted to have a crack at from when I started riding when I was a child,” said Amy. “I started loaning Claude, a 16.1hh, 10-year-old gelding who belongs to Layla Smith, just over a year ago. He is of unknown breeding, although we think there is some Clydesdale in there somewhere. He was very cheeky when I first started riding him, but he’s come on in leaps and bounds, and we have qualified and entered for the championships in the BE70.”
This is Claude’s first ever eventing season, which Amy has introduced him to through the ACE series.
“I’m really looking forward to visiting Aintree for the first time and seeing a championship course,” she said.
Amy, who is a member of Holme Valley Riding Club, fits in riding around her full-time job as a purchasing assistant for a motorcycle parts company.
“I also like to keep active by going to the gym and running, and have just entered my first half marathon at the Great North run in September,” she told. “Most of my riding happens on an evening, either at training events through our riding club or at competitions on a weekend with hacking packing out the spare days in-between.”
For those who have qualified, please get your entries in as soon as possible.
