Emily Kemp is HorseQuest Novice Master at South of England

Riding her 10-year-old German Warmblood gelding Boleybawn Arctic, Emily Kemp earned the title of HorseQuest Novice Master at South of England – the final Novice Master of the 2024 season – with a score of 51.9.

Emily, who runs her own equine laundry service called Rug A-Dub-Dub, said of her win: “It was such a great day and show. I’ve owned ‘Artie’ for five years. He is my first horse to produce to BE Novice and he is just a delight.

“I was pleased with my dressage test, he just had the first fence in the show jumping but stayed really rideable, and really tackled each fence on the cross-country. It was our first Novice Masters. I’d read about the series and thought it would be a good thing to aim for. It’s great to be able to ride the harder dressage plus jump a bigger course yet have a novice cross-country to finish off the day.

“To win was just out of this world. I’m so pleased with him. The past two years we have been so close but something, usually a pole, has kept us from getting there. All our hard work has paid off and it’s definitely a moment I won’t be forgetting any time soon.

Artie’s season is now finished, so he’ll have a well-deserved break before we crack on with winter training for next year.”

Mary Mason and Ballinamurra Flare Star were runners-up with 52.1, while third went to Ella Lucas and My Good Morning with 52.5.

In addition to becoming the South of England Novice Master, Emily also received a HorseQuest rug, numnah, HorseQuest riding socks and a £50 HorseQuest voucher. Mary’s prizes included a HorseQuest numnah, riding socks and a £30 HorseQuest voucher, and Ella received HorseQuest fleece gilet, riding socks and a £20 HorseQuest voucher.
