This year’s FEI Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market International Horse Trials (12-14 April) promises to be one of the best yet, as the event gets ready to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
First run on the site at Sussex Farm in North Norfolk back in 1999, Burnham Market has become a hugely popular fixture in the spring eventing calendar. It has delivered some fabulous sport over the years, with many World, European and Olympic champions choosing to include a run at the event as part of their preparation. It is also a firm favourite with spectators, who come to enjoy a day out watching top-level eventing in the glorious Norfolk countryside.
With this being an Olympic year, competition will be as strong as ever, with riders aiming to get a good run over a more challenging track to kick start their spring campaign. The cross-country courses at Burnham Market are designed by event organiser, Alec Lochore, whose impressive CV includes significant roles at the last three Olympic Games. Having the chance to test themselves over one of Alec’s formidable courses this early in the season will set combinations up well for their targets ahead.
“It has always been a pleasure to run this event and we are delighted to be marking our 25th anniversary this year,” said Alec. “We have enjoyed great support from the eventing community over the last 25 years and we look forward to celebrating this milestone by delivering a superb weekend of sport. We hope to see many of the friends who have joined us at Burnham Market over the years return for this special year, as well as welcoming some new faces.”
