British Eventing is back at Barbury!

Next month will see the welcome return of British Eventing competition at the Barbury Castle estate in Wiltshire (21-23 March).

Barbury was a jewel in the summer eventing calendar for many years, hosting some thrilling international clashes between the world’s best horses and riders – not least Andrew Nicholson, who took no less than six 4* titles at the venue during his career. This new spring calendar slot offers a full schedule of national classes, from novice to intermediate and will also include young horse qualifiers.

One of the big draws of Barbury is its fantastic location on the Marlborough downs. The cross country will run on the downland’s well-drained chalk soil, with much of the course using old turf gallops. Thanks to the natural amphitheatre of the landscape, owners and supporters will be able to see almost the entire course from one spot – enjoying a superb view of all the action as it unfolds.

The cross country courses at Barbury are designed by event organiser, Alec Lochore, whose impressive CV includes significant roles at the last three Olympic Games. The combination of Alec’s formidable courses and the going provided by the stunning, rolling downland will be a tantalising option for riders looking to get a positive, early run under their belts.

“We are delighted to be bringing British Eventing classes back to Barbury,” said Event Organiser for Musketeer Event Management, Jenny Meiklejohn. “The estate is such a popular venue with the eventing community, it is great to see it back in the calendar. We are excited by this new spring slot and hope that it kick-starts a brilliant start to the season for the horses and riders we have entered.”

Spectators are welcome, with catering and trade stands available. Visit the Musketeer Events website for more information, www.musketeer.co.uk.
