British Eventing is thrilled to announce Richard Johnston-Smith as our newly appointed Lead Regional Coach for Scotland.
The news comes as British Eventing’s training offering is undergoing a significant restructure, focusing on high-quality coaching delivered within the regions by newly appointed lead regional coaches, who will work closely with our existing accredited coaches to provide the best offer and experience for our members.
Richard Johnston-Smith BHSI, BE Level 3, BD Level 3, is a multidisciplinary coach with over 20 years’ experience of training in the three Olympic disciplines, and a passion for eventing.
Having competed in both affiliated eventing and dressage, he enjoys supporting riders from grassroots to seasoned campaigners across the levels. As Horsescotland Performance Director, he oversaw the pathway developing Scotland’s elite athletes and this experience will support the work of British Eventing in Scotland, to ensure our members are prepared for their own level of competition.
Richard said: “I am excited to take up the reins and embrace the new role of Lead Coach for Scotland. Working closely with Carlene McNair (Youth Regional Coordinator) and the Scottish Committee, I hope we can develop a progressive training program in the region that will support our members at their chosen level, whilst encouraging new individuals to join the British Eventing family.”
Head of Youth, Darrell Scaife said: “We’re pleased to have Richard Johnston-Smith join British Eventing as Scotland’s Lead Regional Coach. His experience and dedication to coaching make him the perfect fit to collaborate with British Eventing’s Youth Regional Coordinator, Carlene McNair in providing top-notch training and support for BE members. Together, they’ll elevate Scotland’s equestrian community and help shape the future of eventing.”
