We are delighted to announce the leader of the Equilume PBA League for 2023 is Laura Schroter and Katie Witherspoon’s eight-year-old gelding Kabriano who sit on a power based average of 21, just 0.2 of a point in front of Olympic event rider Gemma Stevens and Cooley Park Muze (21.2).
Powered by EquiRatings and sponsored by Equilume, the league takes a combination’s three best finishing scores from all British Eventing events in the 2023 season and creates a Power Based Average (PBA). Laura’s top three scores came from a second place with 15.5 at Horseheath, a second at Farley Hall with 25 and another second at Wellington International with 22.5.
As the league winner, Laura receives an extremely generous prize of £1,000 in prize money, plus £500 worth of Equilume products!
Laura has been riding the eight-year-old Dutch warmblood gelding, by Fabriano VDL out of Oegandra since the summer last year.
“We’ve had quite a journey together,” said Laura. “’Boris’ wasn’t the most straightforward horse, but we’ve worked out how to manage him and get his training right, and he’s been on excellent form for both me and his owner Katie this year.
“We share the ride on him and he’s a very good boy to adapt to us both. I’ll hop on if Katie needs a bit of help with him, and ride him when she goes away on holiday. I train her on him and school him for her. It’s a good set up that works well for us both.”
Ronan Cox, CEO of Equilume said, “Congratulations to Laura Schroter and Kabriano on their outstanding achievement in winning the Equilume Power Average League. It is an exciting league to be a part of as all riders and horses, from ponies and grassroots up to world champions, are all on a level playing field. This win is an extraordinary testament to Laura and Kabriano’s skill and dedication with their consistent performance throughout the year. They are now the proud owner of an Equilume Cashel Light Mask which will ensure they perform at their best in all future competitions to come.”
From someone new to British Eventing doing their first grassroots competitions, through to those at advanced level who have been a member for years, the idea of the league is that all BE members are on a level playing field, meaning the league can be headed by members competing at any level. Don’t miss out next season!
