April Spotlight Award winner is announced

We’re delighted to announce that Isabel Jordan has been chosen as April’s Spotlight Award winner. As part of her award, Isabel wins a uvex exxential 3 riding helmet, courtesy of Zebra Products.

Presented jointly by The Howden Way and British Eventing, the Spotlight Award is a monthly recognition that celebrates individuals who embody the shared values of both organisations. Each month, British Eventing lead coaches are invited to nominate a recipient from their region who has been recognised for their contributions to the eventing community. The winner is then selected by Olympic Gold Medallist, Laura Collett, from a shortlist of contenders.

Coach Camilla Kruger nominated Isabel for the April Spotlight Award on behalf of the South East (SE) region. She said: “’Issy’ has attended most of the British Eventing South East training. She always has a smile on her face, she is kind to other riders, always engaging with her fellow riders and the coach, and has shown great improvement in her riding. She is a very worth recipient of this award.”

Laura Collett, who has the pleasure of selecting the winning candidate, said: “When reading the nominations, Isabel’s stood out to me because of the way she consistently shows up with such a brilliant attitude. It’s not just about talent — it’s about dedication, positivity, and the way you lift those around you, and Isabel seems to do exactly that. Huge well done, Isabel — keep up the great work!”

Isabel commented: “My horse Casper (Cool Reign) and I have been together since July 2023. When we got Casper, he hadn’t jumped for two years following an injury. We have worked really hard on all aspects of his care and training and it has been really gratifying to see how great he now looks and feels and how our partnership has developed over the last few years.

“We are competing in BE100Ou18 classes and would love to hopefully be selected for the SE Team to compete at the Youth Championships in July. We are also planning some CCI1* runs and then hopefully a step up to Novice later in the season.

“We had an amazing first season together last year, having some great experiences such as placing 5th in the BE100u21 class at Youth Championships and coming 10th in the PC100 at the Pony Club Championships. I’m really grateful to Casper for the experiences he has given me and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us!

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to the SE coaches and Wendy Berry our Regional Coordinator for all the training, mentorship and support that I have received through the Youth Programme over the past three years. I love the sense of community within the SE region; I have made some amazing lifelong friends and had some fantastic experiences such as going to the Youth Championships on two occasions and attending the SE Regional training camps which are always hugely educational and a great chance to catch up with friends. I feel so grateful to be able to do a sport that I love with a horse that I love. Winning this award means so much to me and I’m super excited for the season ahead.”

The Howden Way and British Eventing are committed to fostering a culture of excellence, growth, and camaraderie, and the Spotlight Award is a testament to this shared commitment. Each month, a Grassroots (80-100) BE member is nominated by one of British Eventing’s lead regional coaches based on their commitment to the following core values and attributes:

  • Prioritising horse welfare and athlete wellness
  • Embracing and supporting a collaborative, inclusive environment in training and or competition
