ABANDONED – The South of England (1) Horse Trials on Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th April at the Ardingly Showground

It is with a heavy heart that The South of England (1) Horse Trials announces the abandonment of their event in ten days time. Please see comment below:

“We have tried our utmost to run the event but every plan and alteration has been thwarted by the unprecedented rainfall and resultant waterlogged ground.

“Since entries opened the wet weather has been relentless. Despite the recent respite, the four good drying days have had little effect and the ground is still too sodden over large parts of the cross country courses. With more rain forecast there is no possibility that the ground will dry enough to make it safe for both horses and riders, and to get the emergency services to certain areas safely. Ultimately there was only one decision that could be made by the officials.

“We apologise fully realising this is a huge disappointment to all our competitors and to the fantastic teams of course builders, stewards, volunteers and sponsors who work so hard on these events.  We tried our best and hope you understand the impossible circumstances.

“The South of England Horse Trials Competitor’s Abandonment Policy can be found on our website https://southofenglandhorsetrials.co.uk/competitors-soe-1-1 with a link to rule 4.11.7 Uninsured events in the BE Members rule book. Refunds will be processed as soon as possible.”
