The sun shone on Agria Oasby (1) with a first of three visits to the popular Lincolnshire venue. An all-star field filled two days of competition, to much praise from the competitors.
Irish Olympian Susie Berry commented, “the ground was perfect! It was nice to start the season with some inviting courses at each level.”
Susie topped the leaderboard in the BE100 with Madgeslane Harriott, a horse sourced and produced by herself and Max Warburton and recently purchased by Ian Barrett.
“It’s always nice to start the season with a win. I’m just so pleased for her new owner Ian Barrett and honoured that he’s put his trust in me with this super young horse. She really is a top one!”
Imogen King (nee Murray) was another to lead the way with an exciting young horse, this time taking the win on Poynstown Venture for Hannah Henderson, who’s been benefitting from the Howden Way Young Horse programme.
“We always like to go to Oasby as our first event as the courses are always perfect for that first run and Stuart and the team do a fab job with the ground conditions, but this year with the dry weather it was absolutely perfect!!
And so nice to be eventing in March in the warm sunshine.
Poynstown Venture is a lovely six-year-old who came to me last year and was only her second Novice run, having finished the season last year in the Oasby Novice. We’re all very excited about her future!”
Making a 1:30AM start worth it was Emily Philp who claimed a BE100 win with Ogino.
“It was a lovely, friendly event with super courses for giving the horses a really positive first run of the season. A beautiful day and fantastic ground made the early start all worth while, and a win for Ogino was just the icing on the cake and a great way to start the season for his very patient owners.”
Entries are now open for Agria Oasby (2) that returns on 18th– 19th April with a range of grassroots classes. Ballot date is set for 25th March, and competitors are urged to make their entry in advance of this date to aid with event planning.
