British Eventing’s recently announced grassroots leagues, powered by EquiRatings, are set to pay out a share of a £10,000 prize fund this season to members who are competing at BE80, BE90 and BE100 level, plus those who have recently started competing with British Eventing at those levels.
The leagues are open to all members, other than those competing on PAYG, who are competing across these three height categories and who have not competed at Intermediate and above in the current or preceding five seasons, or CCI5*.
Designed around the concept of the Opposition Beaten Percentage (OBP), the brainchild of Equiratings, the leagues will acknowledge how competitive a combination was in a particular class – the greater the number of fellow competitors that they finished ahead of, the better the score. Members, who meet the eligibility criteria, will start having their results counted towards the leagues after they have completed their third run.
Prize money will be paid out every other month to the person topping each of the leagues. This performance prize can only be won by an individual once during the season within each league, which means that it will be awarded down the line if the leader has already previously received it.
In addition to the bi-monthly performance prize money awards there are further prize money awards that will be paid to the top three on each of the leagues at the end of the season. For the winner of the BE100 league this could mean that they may potentially be taking home a total of £1,550 prize money.

The great news is that these awards are starting now – with the first four winners of the performance prize money already confirmed and about to be contacted.
To avoid complication, where an event spans a month end, the qualification period will fall within the month the first day of competition fell.
